ABOUT
Stephen is the son of a poet and academic father, and a mother who studied with Hans Hoffman in the 50s. Taught by his mother from a young age, he has drawn and painted all his life. After graduating from University of Virginia, Stephen moved to Washington, DC and began a career of political paintings and woodcut prints.
In 2003 Stephen moved to New York City with his wife, had a child, and in 2017 escaped to Kingston in the Mid Hudson Valley. There, inspired by the Hudson River and obsessed with reinventing landscape painting, he began a series of observational paintings.
A figurative expressionist, Stephen Lewis continues to paint landscapes & political paintings, and execute woodcut prints.
